  2. Payment Details. When it comes to getting paid, we can all agree that money is important. Therefore, your payment details in the contract agreement should also be very carefully thought out and put together. When you are drafting up the payment agreement, you will also want to make this as precise as possible and include a time schedule, any milestones that will need payment, types of payment accepted, and due dates.
  3. Other Provisions. It is also always a good include different types of provisional related items, such as late payments, unexpected costs (such as attorney’s fees, collection bills, etc.), the consequences of non-payment, and anything else that you think should be detailed. In the payment detail document, make sure to include provisional information that may include what will happen should payment by the property owner not be received. For example, you can include that if payment is not received, you have the ability to suspend or terminate the work on the project and seek immediate recovery until payment is made. It is best to work with a business attorney in your area to draft up this agreement property to make sure you are covered.

Step 3: Drying, cleaning, and restoration

After the mass amounts of water are removed, the drying process will begin. Even if a majority of the area looks dry, certain places in a house (or any building style) can retain water in drywall or wood. If this water isn’t dried correctly it can cause walls and floors to break down, warp, or grow mold.

In order to dry proficiently, dehumidification and monitoring equipment is often used. The dehumidification equipment will remove moisture quickly, and professionals will use monitors to track how much moisture is left in walls and floors. High-speed fans will make the drying process move faster when airflow is created in the area.

More than likely after the drying process is completed, your surfaces, floors, and walls may need professional cleaning. Anything damaged by water will need to be professionally cleaned and sanitized to prevent mold growth, and anything wet could begin to have a strong odor – especially if the water was contaminated to certain extents. Because of this, you might require deodorization and odor removal treatments that have antibacterial properties.

While your home might begin to start looking normal again, it may still not be in the perfect condition it was before flooding or damage. Restoration is the final step taken to bring your home back to life. In this process, there may be some minor repairs and carpet or drywall replacement. In some extreme cases, reconstruction of entire rooms may be necessary. In the case of damage from extreme weather, it is important that certain measures are taken to make sure any further damage may happen by supplying a roof tarp.

You need a contract. If the company you hire gives you a contract without a reliable schedule, then they might be overbooked and not primarily focused on your needs. A contract should have a strong timeline of how long the project will take every day from start to finish. A contract should have not only a blueprint, but it should also have a detailed schedule from start to finish. This should be kept in an organized place along with your receipts, payments, etc.

6.) Be prepared for everything

 While this sounds like a very broad statement, it is very realistic. No matter what type of renovation you are doing, have a plan. Like previously stated, you need to make firm choices. Whether it is the color of paint or a type of floor, you need to know what you want and make sure you’ve made the right decision. If you go into everything knowing exactly what you want and need, it’ll make everything easier for everyone. Look over the samples they gave you and talk to them about it. Make sure you have enough space for the crew. Remove anything of value that could accidentally be ruined during the process.

4 Tips for Keeping Your House Cool in the Summer

Everyone loves summer. The barbecues, the swimming pool parties, the outdoor concerts, what’s not to love about all that? While the summertime is a great time for relaxation and fun with friends and family, there is one thing that is a challenge to most everyone during this time of year – and that is staying cool!

Staying cool during the summer heat is a tough job, especially if you live in the southern states, where temperatures can run over 100 degrees for days on end. And of course, with increased temperatures, comes increased energy bills. The need to run the A/C is a must in order to function in our homes. But, there are some cost-effective ways to stay cool without having to crank up the A/C, and we’ve listed our top 4 tips below.

  1. Use Natural Light and High Efficient Lighting. A great way to keep cool is by using natural light instead of light bulbs. As we all know, light bulbs put out a lot of heat. If you’ve ever touched a bare bulb while it was on, you can feel it to the touch. Using natural light is a great way to bypass this heat source and keep any room cooler. If you must use light bulbs, use energy efficient bulbs, such as LED’s
  2. Don’t Cook – or Cook Outdoors. During the summer, try not to use the oven when it can be avoided. The oven produces a lot of heat and can cause your home to become much warmer. Try preplanning meals so that you don’t need an oven. You can cook on a grill, in a microwave, or in a crock pot – these are all cooler alternatives that using the stove.
  3. Use Ceiling Fans. Did you know that most ceiling fans have a small switch at the base of it that allows the direction of the fan to change. During the summer months, you want your ceiling fan to rotate counter-clockwise. This makes it blow forwards and forces the air down, making you cooler.   4. Keep your blinds closed. Did you know that up to 30 percent of unwanted heat comes from windows? By utilizing curtains and window shades, you can drastically reduce the amount of heat that comes through the windows.
